TOBI, an inhalation powder is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial lung infection associated with cystic fibrosis. The recommended dosage of TOBI Podhaler is the inhalation of four 28 mg capsules, twice daily for 28 days.

Side Effects of TOBI Podhaler
Serious allergic reactions with TOBI Podhaler are very rare. People taking TOBI may sometimes have numbness, tingling or pain in the body. In the initial phase of treatment, people may have a mild rash. Some people may experience severe skin allergic reactions which are accompanied by itching or swelling on the face, tongue or throat; fever, difficulty in swallowing or breathing; and hives.
Some people may also experience painful skin rash on the face and upper part of the body. These painful rashes are usually of a reddish color and may cause flaking or peeling of the skin. The symptoms can be reversed by the discontinuation of TOBI Podhaler. Call your health care provider immediately in case of severe allergic reactions.
Ototoxicity, loss of hearing and vestibular function secondary to cochlear hair damage is the serious side effect associated with TOBI Podhaler. According to clinical trials, tinnitus or ringing sound in ears occur in 1.9 percent of the treated patients.
It is advisable to contact your health care provider if you hear ringing, buzzing, clicking, hissing, or roaring noises in your ears. Auditory loss may also cause symptoms such as vertigo, difficulty with balance or dizziness.
Worsening of Kidneys
TOBI Podhaler is a type of drug that may cause severe side effects such as nephrotoxicity, a poisonous effect of some substances, both toxic chemicals, and medication, on the kidneys. Nephrotoxicity is more likely to occur in patients with known or suspected kidney problems.
It may also occur in patients with normal renal function treated for longer periods at higher than the recommended dosage of TOBI Podhaler. It is advisable to consult your doctor before taking TOBI Podhaler. Your health care provider might do the necessary blood test to check the status of your kidneys while taking TOBI Podhaler medication.
Worsening Muscle Weakness
Another side effect associated with TOBI Podhaler includes muscle weakness. The side effect may worsen in people with a previous history of muscle weakness. Consult your doctor to know what is best for you.
Severe Breathing Problems
Bronchospasm or severe breathing problem is the most severe side effect of TOBI Podhaler. The sign and symptoms of Bronchospasm in TOBI treated patients include shortness of breath accompanied by wheezing, coughing and tightness in the chest.
